The Largest City in West Virginia

The largest metropolitan area in West Virginia is Huntington–Ashland, with an estimated total population of 361,580 in 2015 (compared to a 2020 estimate of 210,605 in the Charleston equivalent). But Huntington–Ashland extends into three states: the city of Ashland itself is in Kentucky, and the area also includes Flatwoods (also in Kentucky) and Ironton (Ohio).

Huntington is the second–largest city in Kentucky, with a population of 46,842 in 2020 compared with Charleston's (estimated) 48,018 in 2021.
